About Rugs

Heirloom Rugs for a Lifetime

For over 2,500 years, oriental rugs have been used in the East by nomads and villagers for warmth and beauty. More recently in the West, they have graced homes with their art and luxury, and go with any decor. A wool rug is a purchase for a lifetime and when properly maintained, for generations. The information contained in this section offers simple, basic advice for the protection and care of your investment.

The Wonders of Wool

All of our rugs are made handwoven using 100% pure wool unless specified otherwise in the description. Rugs are generally made of wool and are easily and economically maintained. Wool rugs are extremely durable and consistently outperform other materials. Unlike other fibers, wool is much more resilient, cleans better, and stays clean longer.

Furniture Arrangement

Choosing a rug can be hard, we know.
Here are a few helpful pointers to help you decide on the perfect hand-woven rug for your home.
Protect your rug from furniture legs with some sort of coasters to avoid fibers being crushed.

- In the DINING ROOM- Opt for a size where all table and chair legs can fit on the rug with room to spare, even with chairs pushed back.
- In the LIVING ROOM- We suggest choosing a size that's large enough to allow the front legs of all furniture to rest on the rug.
- In the BEDROOM- We like to have at least a foot of rug peeking out on both sides of the bed, with the rug positioned where your feet hit the floor.

Rotation

To insure even wear, your rug should be rotated once a year. Depending on the traffic, the rotation may vary from six months to two years.

Padding

A quality pad used under your rug helps protect it from dirt, wear, and slippage. We are happy to help you find the correct padding.

Restoration

In case of damage, just about any problem has a solution with a professional restoration. Old and antique rugs sometimes need to be rewoven where worn to restore to life. Newer rugs are rarely in need of repair. An experienced professional must always be consulted in these matters.

Storing

If you have to store your rug for a long time, pack your rug with moth repellant and wrap in strong paper.

Cleaning

For day to day cleaning, vacuuming will remove surface soil. Be sure not to vacuum the fringes. Use your vacuum attachments to reach the areas under the furniture to avoid moth damage. For major and deep cleaning, please contact us or any specialized rug dealer.

Some Stain Removal

Blotting & Stain Removal

When spills occur, dilute with plenty of water. Next, blot from the edge of the spill towards the center. Avoid rubbing the area. For solid spills, take a spoon and carefully scoop up the material. It is always best to attack the spill immediately. The following information will help you eliminate most stains. For further advice, contact us. We are glad to help.

Removing Coffee, Tea, & Wine

Apply mild soap and water to the spot. Rub and blot with a towel then apply ammonia and blot, then vinegar and blot, add soapy water and rub and blot, and finally apply clean water and blot.

Removing Wax

Put a blotter or brown bag over the spot. Put a hot iron over the blotter. Wait a few minutes until the wax is absorbed into the blotter. Repeat if necessary. Move the iron constantly and do not let it stay in one place.

Removing Ink

Saturate the spot with hairspray. Allow it to dry. Brush lightly with a solution of water and vinegar.

Removing Glue

Saturate the spot with a blotter soaked in vinegar or alcohol.

Removing Chewing Gum

Press ice cubes against the spot. Wait until it becomes brittle and breaks off. Use spot remover to remove the last traces of the spot.
